The cultural office of the state capital Schwerin, created in 2005, is the joint umbrella of the municipal cultural and educational institutions. In the "Kulturbüro" network, the municipal institutions focus on their commonalities and support and complement each other. Synergies arise, for example, in joint advertising measures, in the coordination of events, in the optimization of financing, in the deployment of personnel or in the joint or mutual use of rooms and technology. Various events or projects are planned, prepared and carried out together or enriched by combining different disciplines.

The cultural office sees its main task in the networking of the entire urban cultural life. Since the founding of the Kulturbüro, new forms of cross-institutional cooperation have emerged and developed. Partnerships have been strengthened and the ever closer cooperation between state institutions and municipal, private, church and independent cultural institutions has resulted in an ever greater variety of offerings in Schwerin.
