Landeshauptstadt Schwerin - Fachdienst Soziales

The Social Services department is the point of contact for a wide range of social services. One of its basic tasks is to provide assistance in accordance with the German Social Security Code XII. This primarily includes assistance with living expenses and basic old-age and reduced-income benefits, a wide range of integration assistance for people with disabilities and care assistance. However, special social benefits such as housing benefit, assistance under the education and participation package, benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, war victims' welfare, assistance for the blind and state blindness benefit are also processed by the Social Services department. The assistance is usually granted in the form of cash benefits. The prevention of homelessness as a regulatory task is also part of the specialist service.

The tasks not only include the granting of benefits but also comprehensive advice for customers. The aim of the law to help people to help themselves and the subordination of benefits must be observed. The development of social plans (the most recent update was the social care plan for the state capital of Schwerin) and the promotion of social facilities are further tasks of the specialist service.

Together with the health and long-term care insurance companies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the state capital Schwerin is responsible for the Schwerin Care Support Centre, which is organizationally assigned to the Social Services Department. In addition, we work with the key players in the "Care Network" to implement the findings from social care planning.
The Social Services Department is also the point of contact for the negotiation of services in accordance with SGB XII.
