The Hazard Prevention Section includes the tasks of preventive fire protection, emergency preparedness, and disaster response.

Preventive fire protection:

• Fire protection opinions within the framework of building permit procedures
• Fire prevention inspections in objects where fires would pose special risks to many people, valuable cultural assets or the environment
• Expert opinion on planning concepts, e.g. for new construction areas

preparation of operations:

• Participation in the approval of road closures to ensure that the fire department has the necessary access to buildings at all times
• Maintaining and updating fire department plans that allow firefighters to orient themselves in large buildings and businesses
• Preparing for operations involving chemical, biological, or radioactive hazardous materials by providing appropriate training for emergency personnel and procuring and maintaining the necessary specialized equipment

Disaster management:

• Performing the duties of the state capital Schwerin as the lower disaster control authority in accordance with the State Disaster Control Act M-V, e.g..: Disaster protection planning
• Supervision of the units and facilities involved in disaster management
• Preparation of the deployment of the operational-tactical staff of the state capital Schwerin
