The Economic Youth Welfare is responsible within the Youth Department for the administrative and financial implementation of youth welfare measures for children, adolescents and young adults according to the Social Code VIII (Child and Youth Welfare Law).

The social-pedagogical advice and support of parents, children, adolescents or young adults within the youth welfare system is provided by the social-pedagogical service of the state capital Schwerin.

All assistance is to be worked out with the staff of the Social Pedagogical Service in the Youth Department and applied for through them. The economic youth welfare service then implements the youth welfare measures. This includes the preparation of notices, the processing of objections and the settlement of accounts of the facilities. Further tasks include checking the factual and local responsibility, asserting claims for compensation (e.g. against pension providers, health insurance companies and other authorities), checking and approving one-off subsidies and cost reimbursement claims against other youth welfare providers.

If partial inpatient and inpatient assistance is provided, the parents and the children, adolescents or young adults are liable to pay the costs. The calculation of this cost contribution is part of the task of the economic youth welfare.

If desired, it is possible to calculate how much the parents will have to contribute to the costs before the start of a youth welfare measure.

The cost contribution is calculated on the basis of the financial capacity of the person liable to pay the costs. Within the framework of the available income of the obligated parties, it is checked whether they can contribute to the costs. The staff of the Economic Youth Welfare Service will be happy to advise and support you.

In addition, the benefits of other social service providers are used to cover the costs (e.g. child benefit, orphan's pension, BAföG, BAB or other entitlements).
